The project involved replacing most of the massive windows

The recent renovation of the Blackstone Steam Plant earned a Preservation Award from the Cambridge Historical Commission. The project was part of our effort to strengthen the University’s critical infrastructure and protect against climate change. Engineering & Utilities upgraded the windows and frames to withstand 150 mph winds. Significant masonry work was also undertaken and the exterior lighting was also replaced with LED fixtures. The award recognizes projects that protect the City’s architecture and history.
